A few days ago, I started modifying the Kumpisal web application using a more layered approach. Yes, I’m trying to do what I should have done a long time ago: use dependency injection, repository patterns to make it more maintainable and at least accomplish something that has been bugging me for a while.
This is my first website using jQuery Mobile and MVC 3. It’s an online confession website. It took a few days to “finish” it, probably started Friday (March 2, 2012) and then pushed it to the web server today. It’s an anonymous website so anybody can just post there. A concern would be spammers but I’ll look into that when I get the problem.
I realized that the drag and drop feature of the Automatic Birthday Greeter Facebook app works on desktops. I tried it on iPhone, iPad and Android phones, it never worked. So I added a fix for it. You should be able to drag and drop items now from those devices. Too bad, it doesn’t work with Windows Phones yet.
Coming back from my friend’s house to help him move out from his house, I got the chance to put a Search feature for my Automatic Birthday Greeter Facebook app. Each list box (I will call it column in the future), will have its own Search box. This way you don’t have to click on the “Load more” link to see all of your friends. Just type the first name or last name, and select the friend you want to show in the column. It is then added to the column and you should be able to move it around.
I just released the first version of my Automatic Birthday Greeter Facebook application. It’s very simple to use. After logging in to the app, you will see 3 list boxes. The left-most list box displays all your friends, the middle list box (Default) displays all friends that you want to send a default message on their birthdays, and the right-most one (Custom) displays all your friends that will get your custom message on their birthdays.
The first time you log in the left list box should display all your friends while the other 2 boxes are empty. You can move a friend from the left to the middle, middle to right, right to middle, middle to left boxes by dragging a friend from the list box. If you have thousands of friends then dragging may not be a good option. So I added a move-all-friends feature. Look for the blue arrows between the list boxes. Should save you some time.
Now after moving friends, what would you do? Nothing really. I have a service running in my machine that scans all your friends moved to the default and custom list boxes and if their birthdays occur on the day the scan was started, then your birthday message will be posted to their walls.
They’ll appreciate that you remember and you’ll feel better. You’ll never forget your Facebook friend’s birthday.
I went back to PA on a business trip. I had the chance to visit our house and was a little bit emotional. It was empty and quiet, far from what it used to be when we still call it home. I took some photos to show my wife and kids. I’m sure they miss our home too.
I watched too much TV this month. When I was still living in PA, I spent probably 3 hours a week watching TV but now, it’s like 4 hours a day. It ends today.
We just moved to California. Living with a friend’s house while looking to buy a house. The house in PA is still for sale. We didn’t expect to move this quickly but the opportunity was there. It’s a big change but we’ll try to survive.
